The 2009 Backpack Project

Three years ago I decided to start this project because I wanted to help people who lived in our community. I used to volunteer at the Women's Habitat but eventually could no longer find the time to commit and so the project began. For the last two years we have filled about 20 bags. This year, the shelter has asked if we can also fill backpacks for children who take part in two programs at the shelter, one for boys and one for girls.
Thanks to all the help of my friends and family we have accomplished the goal of filling the backpacks and I hope that this year we can again reach our new goal of 40 backpacks.
The kids at the shelter often leave their homes with very little and will need to change schools. A simple gesture of a new backpack may give them a just a little more confidence to start their first day of a new life and new challenges that will face them.
Thank you again for your help. Any and all donations, no matter the size, are greatly appreciated!
I also believe it is important that our children know how fortunate they are and so my three children help every year in the purchasing of items and putting together the backpacks as well as delivery. By the second year they stopped asking to keep all the fun stuff!
So get your children involved and share in this giving experience
Find out more about the shelter at http://www.womens-habitat.ca/.
If you would like to make a donation email Monique at lifeoncardigan@yahoo.com
I plan to put the backpacks together around August 20th to be delivered August 24th.
